President

As a lifelong Fredericksburg resident and IT professional with more than 30 years of experience, Robert Buongiorne has built a reputation for helping local businesses leverage technology to grow and succeed.

A major milestone in Robert’s career came in 1994, when he turned an unexpected layoff from a Northern Virginia technology position into an entrepreneurial opportunity. Recognizing that businesses in the Fredericksburg area had limited access to on-site IT support, he founded Businets.

The name came from combining “business” and “networks.” His vision was simple: provide reliable, professional technology services directly to local businesses.

Starting a company just two years after getting married and one year after purchasing his first home was a significant leap of faith. What began as a one-person operation has grown into a trusted technology partner for organizations throughout the region.

Through decades of technological change, from the early days of the internet to today’s cloud-based and cybersecurity-focused environments, Businets has continued to adapt and serve its clients with personalized support.

Among Robert’s proudest achievements is the longevity of the business itself. Maintaining a successful technology company for more than three decades reflects his commitment to customer service, technical expertise, and strong relationships within the local business community.

He credits much of that success to the loyal clients, partners, and team members who have supported Businets throughout its journey. Outside of work, Robert enjoys an active lifestyle through fitness and exercise.

In his free time, if it involves a ball or an engine, chances are he’s either playing it, watching it, or cheering it on.

Network Engineer & Partner

Walter Scott is a seasoned IT professional with more than 30 years of experience designing, implementing, securing, and supporting business technology environments. He has been a key member of Businets Inc. for more than 25 years and currently serves as a Network Engineer and Partner, working closely with clients to develop reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions.

Throughout his career, Walter has developed extensive expertise across network infrastructure, cybersecurity, virtualization, cloud services, and enterprise IT. His technical experience includes Windows Server and Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and Azure, Hyper-V and VMware virtualization, Fortinet network security, firewalls, SD-WAN, VLANs, backup and disaster recovery, and VoIP systems.

Walter specializes in solving complex infrastructure and networking challenges and has extensive experience designing and supporting technology environments for small and mid-sized organizations. He takes a practical, hands-on approach to IT, focusing on solutions that are secure, dependable, manageable, and aligned with each client’s business needs.

With more than three decades of real-world experience, Walter combines deep technical knowledge with a strong understanding of the business impact of technology. His goal is simple: help clients build and maintain technology environments they can depend on while allowing them to focus on running and growing their businesses.

Service Manager / Network Engineer & Partner

Stephen Tate has been a member of the Businets team since November 1997, joining the company as its very first employee. Over the years, through hard work, dedication, and a passion for technology, he has grown with the organization and is now a part owner of Businets.

Stephen’s interest in information technology began in the early 1990s when his father brought home a Gateway PC. That first computer sparked a lifelong fascination with technology and set him on the path to a career in IT.

One of the aspects he enjoys most about the industry is its constant evolution. While keeping pace with new technologies can be challenging, it’s also what has kept his career engaging and rewarding for nearly three decades.

In IT, there is always something new to learn, and no two days are ever quite the same. When he’s not helping clients solve technology challenges, Stephen enjoys gardening.

For him, gardening provides the perfect balance to the fast-paced world of IT. While technology is constantly changing, gardening offers the opportunity to slow down, work with nature, and appreciate growth at its own pace.

Although he jokingly admits he doesn’t have the greenest thumb, he finds genuine satisfaction in getting his hands in the soil and watching his garden develop over time.

Technician

Scott joined the Businets team in October 2021, bringing with him a lifelong passion for technology and a desire to continuously learn and grow. An avid learner, he enjoys the rapid pace of MSP life and loves the variety of challenges that accompany supporting a varied customer base.

As a child, Scott enjoyed disassembling and reassembling things to discover how they worked, much to his parents’ consternation. He grew up watching his older brothers play games on the family PC, and his curiosity was further piqued when he discovered his brother’s 4-inch-thick book on PC repair.

Reading it cover to cover started him on a lifelong journey of solving technology-related problems. That same curiosity, combined with a passion for helping others, is what drives him today.

When he’s not busy volunteering at church or spending time with family, he enjoys an occasional round of disc golf, works on his homelab, and plays the piano.

Technician

Jayson joined Businets in March 2023 and brings a strong technical foundation and passion for problem-solving to the team. He graduated from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise in 2021 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, where he also played center on the offensive line for the UVA-Wise football team.

A lifelong technology enthusiast, Jayson enjoys helping clients overcome technical challenges while continuing to expand his knowledge and skills in the ever-evolving IT industry. Prior to joining Businets, he represented Virginia in the National SkillsUSA Telecommunications Competition in 2017, an achievement that reflects his early dedication to technology and communications.

Outside of work, Jayson enjoys watching sports, bowling, fishing, camping, reading, gaming, and weightlifting.

Network Engineer

Debbi Kieper is an experienced IT professional with more than 25 years of expertise in technology, systems support, and business solutions. Throughout her career, she has successfully helped organizations leverage technology to improve efficiency, solve complex challenges, and drive innovation.

Passionate about continuous learning and problem-solving, Debbi brings a practical, customer-focused approach to every project. Outside of work, she enjoys building LEGO creations and exploring the world through Pokémon GO, combining her love of creativity, strategy, and technology.

Telecom Sales Rep / Technician

Randie served in the Army as an Information Systems Operator/Analyst, and after having her two kids she transferred to the DC Army National Guard, where she worked as a Computer/Communications IT Specialist.

After her military service, she joined Lockheed Martin as a Network/Desktop Support Technician supporting the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon. She moved to the Department of Homeland Security, where she worked as an Information Resource Management Analyst/System Administrator.

She later stepped away from her career to be more hands-on in raising her children and to spend more time with them. She returned to the workforce and has been with Businets for the past seven years.

Outside of work, Randie enjoys festivals, comic conventions, exploring interesting places around Virginia, visiting wineries and breweries, going to baseball games, trying new recipes, and relaxing at home watching movies with her family and their dogs.

My name is Jane Porcheddu, I am the head of our Sales Department here at Businets, Inc. I’ve always been someone who enjoys figuring out how things work, whether that’s technology or solving everyday problems.

That curiosity eventually led me into the IT industry, where I found that helping people through technology was just as rewarding as understanding it. Today, I work with clients to design solutions that improve security, simplify operations, and give them confidence that their technology is working for them.

Outside of work, I’m an avid historian, reader as well as a writer. I also enjoy exploring museums and the many historical sites we have around Fredericksburg, spending time outdoors, and making memories with my husband and our three children.

Whether I’m researching the past or implementing modern technology, I’ve always believed that learning never stops and that’s one of the things I enjoy most about working in IT.
